Acquiring a sign language is quite a challenge. Even if courses are on offer close to where you live, it might be an idea to hire a sign language teacher with the family. In one of the Dutch courses followed by the Schuurman family, the involvement of wider family and friends is a key component. In this way, more people around the child will learn to communicate visually.
